Face-Off:
Schwarzenegger vs. Reagan |
Opposing Viewpoints From A Former California Governor, And An Aspiring One
|
I Hope To Follow In Reagan's FootstepsBy Arnold Schwarzenegger
Ever since I announced my candidacy for governor of California, a lot of people have laughed at me. They say that, as an actor, I don't have the knowledge or experience needed to govern a state that represents the fifth-largest economy in the world. But I intend to prove them wrong. I'm hoping to follow in the footsteps of another man who was once laughed at, but went on to become governor of California, President of the United States, and one of the greatest leaders in this nation's history: President Ronald Reagan.
When Reagan started his political career, it was easy to mock him for his roles in movies like "Bedtime for Bonzo." But Reagan knew something his critics didn't - that as an entertainer, he was more in touch with the average American than those stuffed shirts on Capitol Hill. What some people thought of as his weakness became his strength: he came across as an honest, plain-spoken American, in contrast to the fancy double-talk we've come all too accustomed to since the era of Bill Clinton.
It's true that, unlike Reagan, I was not born in this country, and so I can never be elected President. But there are many other ways I can serve my country; I can envision myself as an advisor or Cabinet member of a future Republican administration, playing an important role in policy decisions of national importance. And I'll do it by following Reagan's example: by embracing my non-political background and presenting myself to the public as an honest, simple, hard-working American - just like them.
These Marbles Taste GoodBy Ronald Reagan
These marbles taste good, especially the green ones. I take them from the play room. I like to dip them in peanut butter. The nurse tries to stop me, but that's only because she likes to eat them, too, and she wants to keep them all for herself.
There's a nice young lady who comes by each morning to help me change out of my pajamas. Sometimes it tickles. She has very pretty blonde hair and long red fingernails. I made her a necklace from paper clips.
Once a day, I get to go for a walk. There are squirrels, and I try to catch them, but they are much too fast! They have cute fuzzy tails.
A little brown birdie lives in the tree outside my window. I talk to him and he talks to me. Sometimes he sings me songs! He is my best friend.
Now, if I could only remember where I put my underpants.
Have you tried the marbles?
