Google Unveils War-Themed Logo |
Popular Search Engine Likes To Spruce Up Home Page With Graphics For Special Occasions; Impending War No Exception
|
Society - The creators of Google, the most popular search engine on the Internet, today unveiled a new military-themed logo aimed at "bringing a little wartime cheer" to its users, sources say.
Google has a long tradition of delighting users with amusing logos for special occasions. In the past, visitors to the site have been treated to the image of a four-leaf clover for Saint Patrick's Day, hearts for Valentine's Day, and a grinning turkey for Thanksgiving. Now that President Bush has issued an ultimatum to Iraq, making war seemingly inevitable, the site's logo boasts whimsical portrayals of a tank, a fighter plane, and a tombstone reading "RIP Saddam."
Google representatives declined to comment on the rumor that Iraqi visitors to the site instead see chemical warfare masks, biological hazard symbols, and a headstone with the words "RIP Bush."
